Omnibus Surveys
Multi-Country Omnibus Surveys
Nira Data’s Omnibus Surveys are designed for researchers who need high quality, comparative insights from multi-country studies but without the time or cost of launching a standalone study.
Our omnibus service offers a unique opportunity to insert your own questions into a nationally representative survey instrument fielded regularly to the general public. Whether you're conducting academic research, program evaluation, or public policy analysis, our platform delivers the high-quality data you need—quickly and cost-effectively.

How it works
Day 1 - Reserve a slot
Reserve a slot to guarantee that your questions will be included. From the registration deadline onwards, you have 2 weeks to submit your questions.
Day 60 - You receive the data
Your data is cleaned, weighted and ready for analysis in crosstabs and in summary charts.
Frequently asked questions
To make the survey questions work seamlessly across the world independent of operating system and screen rendering, and to create an optimal user experience, we’re currently conducting only multiple choice questions (single or multiple answers) with a maximum of 6 answer options.
Questions can have a maximum of 70 characters or about 15 words, and answer options a maximum of 35 characters each, or about 7 words.
For the omnibus setting, we currently do not support any of the following question formats:
- Open text questions
- Matrix questions
- Ranking question
- Dropdown menus
- Slider/Scale input
- Numeric ranges
As a rule-of-thumb, to get reliable answers and ensure a good respondent experience, each question should be formulated so that it can be read and answered in less than 5 seconds. When formulating questions, always ask yourself whether a commuter in a noisy environment would understand it instantly.
Here are a few tips on how to write great mobile optimized survey questions:
1. Keep Questions Short and Clear
✅ Do: Use concise, plain language that’s easy to read on small screens.
Example: “How often do you use public transport?”
2. Use Simple, Direct Answer Formats
✅ Do: Stick to formats like single choice, multiple choice, or short sliders.
Example:
Q: "What is your favorite type of music?"
- Pop
- Rock
- Jazz
- Classical
- Other
3. Limit Options (Max 6 choices including “other” or “not sure”)
✅ Do: Keep answer options short and scannable without scrolling.
Example: “What’s your preferred streaming platform?”
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Disney+
- Amazon Prime
- Other
4. Show One Question Per Screen
✅ Do: Avoid cognitive overload—focus user attention.
5. Use Mobile-Friendly Wording
✅ Do: Use everyday terms and direct “you” phrasing.
Example: “Did you buy coffee today?”
Here are a few things to avoid in mobile surveys:
1. Don’t Use Long, Complex Sentences
❌ Don’t: “Considering the variety of options available, how frequently do you find yourself engaging with various forms of digital entertainment via mobile devices?” Too long and hard to follow on mobile.
2. Don’t Stack Matrix or Grid Questions
❌ Don’t: A 4x5 matrix of agreement levels across multiple options—cluttered and unreadable on small screens.
3. Don’t use jargon or academic language
❌ Don’t: “How frequently do you engage in asynchronous digital communication with peer cohorts?” Instead: “How often do you text or message your friends?”
4. Don’t Ask Double-Barreled Questions
❌ Don’t: “How satisfied are you with your phone’s battery and camera?”
What if someone likes one but not the other?
5. Don’t ask questions in a leading way
❌ Don’t: “You are happy. Correct?”
Yes, question branching (also known as skip logic or conditional logic, where the next question a respondent sees depends on their previous answer) is possible. For the pricing, the maximum number of questions that a single person could answer is relevant.
We have the ability to include image files, but this is subject to UX considerations. We currently do not support video or audio files.
There are two costs for the omnibus survey: an initial fee to reserve a slot, which covers project management, data analysis etc., and a fee per question.
Both depend on the specific Omnibus setup, which you can check at the relevant sites.
The total number of interviews can differ by setup and country. As a rule of thumb, we always aim to complete at least 1.000 interviews in countries with a population above 5 million people, and at least 500 interviews in countries that have a population below 5 million people.
We ensure representative sampling by applying quota sampling aligned with official census data across key variables (e.g., age, gender, region, education), using dynamic recruitment from blended digital sources to minimize coverage bias. Our platform monitors quotas in real time, automatically correcting imbalances during fieldwork.
Post-fieldwork, we apply post-stratification weights to align samples with population benchmarks. For multi-country studies, we adapt sampling frames locally to maintain cross-national comparability without assuming uniform demographics.
This infrastructure enables scalable, methodologically sound sampling that meets the standards of academic and applied research alike.
The registration fee is not refundable, but if you decide to not submit questions for an Omnibus where you reserved a slot, the registration fee can be credited against a future Omnibus survey within a 12-month time period.
